1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Project Exporter for ChatGPT (the “Extension”), developed by Bijal Patel (“Developer”, “I”, “me”, or “my”), handles information when you use the Extension.

The Extension is designed to export conversations from ChatGPT Projects as individual Markdown or JSON files bundled in a ZIP archive.

The Extension is designed to process conversation content locally in your browser. It does not send your exported conversation content to the Developer or to third-party analytics, advertising, or processing services. The Extension does not require you to create a separate account with the Developer.

2. Independent extension

Project Exporter for ChatGPT is an independent extension developed by Bijal Patel. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by OpenAI.

OpenAI and ChatGPT are third-party services and marks belonging to their respective owners.

3. Information the Extension accesses

To perform an export that you request, the Extension may access information available within your authenticated ChatGPT session, including:

The Extension accesses this information only to provide the export functionality requested by you.

4. Information the Developer does not collect

The Extension does not intentionally collect or transmit to the Developer:

The Extension does not include third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or similar tracking technologies.

5. Authentication data

The Extension uses your existing authenticated ChatGPT browser session to make the read-only requests needed for the export you initiate.

Authentication-related headers may be observed temporarily in browser memory so that the Extension can perform those authenticated requests. They are not intentionally written to extension storage, included in exported files, sent to the Developer, or sent to third parties.

The Extension does not ask you to type or provide your ChatGPT password or authentication token.

6. Local storage

The Extension uses browser extension storage to support its functionality.

This may include:

### Resumable export checkpoints

If an export is interrupted, the Extension may temporarily store completed conversation export data locally in browser extension storage so that the export can be resumed.

These checkpoints are designed to be removed when:

### Export queue information

The Extension may locally store information about queued or active export jobs so that only one export runs at a time and later jobs can be processed in order.

### Completed-export history

The Extension may retain limited summary metadata about recent completed exports, such as the Project name, completion status, number of exported files, completion time, and ZIP filename.

Completed-export summary metadata is retained locally for up to 30 days and is also subject to a maximum number of retained entries.

The completed-export history does not contain the full conversation text.

7. `unlimitedStorage` permission

The Extension requests the browser’s unlimitedStorage permission because large ChatGPT Projects can exceed the normal extension-storage quota when an interrupted export is temporarily checkpointed for resume.

This permission is used for local browser storage only. It does not permit the Developer to access that local storage remotely.

8. Network communications

The Extension’s functional network requests are limited to https://chatgpt.com.

The Extension does not send exported conversation content to a server operated by the Developer.

The Extension does not use third-party cloud services to generate Markdown, JSON, or ZIP files. Those files are generated locally in your browser.

9. Downloads

When you initiate an export, the Extension generates the requested files locally and creates a ZIP archive for download through your browser.

The Developer does not receive a copy of the downloaded ZIP archive or its contents.

Once a file has been downloaded, its storage, backup, deletion, sharing, and security are controlled by you and your operating system or other software you use.

10. Data sharing and sale

The Developer does not sell, rent, license, or share your ChatGPT conversation content with advertisers, data brokers, analytics companies, or other third parties.

Because the Extension does not transmit your conversation content to the Developer, the Developer does not maintain a server-side database of exported conversations.

11. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The Extension’s use of information received from Google Chrome APIs complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In particular:

12. Optional donations

The Extension is currently free to use.

An optional donation mechanism may be added in the future. If a third-party payment or donation provider is introduced, that provider may process information necessary to complete the donation under its own privacy policy.

Any future donation feature should be documented in an updated version of this Privacy Policy before or when it is introduced.

13. Third-party services

The Extension interacts with ChatGPT, which is operated by OpenAI.

Your use of ChatGPT, including the information ChatGPT itself processes about you, is governed by OpenAI’s own terms and privacy policies. This Privacy Policy applies only to the Extension and the Developer’s handling of information through the Extension.

The Developer does not control OpenAI’s data practices.

14. Security

The Extension is designed to minimize data exposure by:

No software can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your browser, device, ChatGPT account, and downloaded files.

15. Children’s privacy

The Extension is not specifically directed to children.

The Extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children on behalf of the Developer. Use of ChatGPT remains subject to the age requirements and other rules applicable to the user’s ChatGPT account.

16. Your choices and control

You can:

Uninstalling the Extension will generally cause the browser to remove extension-local storage, but browser behavior can vary. If you want to explicitly clear the Extension’s locally stored state before uninstalling, use Clear all exporter data first.

17. International users

The Extension may be used by people in different countries. Because conversation export processing is designed to occur locally in your browser and is not transmitted to the Developer, the Developer does not ordinarily transfer exported conversation content across borders.

Your use of ChatGPT itself may involve international data processing by OpenAI under OpenAI’s own policies.

18. Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if the Extension’s features, data practices, legal requirements, or distribution model change.

Material changes will be disclosed where reasonably practicable through the Extension listing, documentation, website, Extension UI, or another appropriate channel.

The “Last updated” date at the top of this Privacy Policy will be revised when the policy changes.

20. Governing law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of India.

Subject to any mandatory rights or remedies that apply under applicable law, the courts in Pune, Maharashtra, India will have jurisdiction over disputes relating to this Privacy Policy or the Developer’s handling of information through the Extension.
